Pam Renovato Digital Fine Artist

Who am I?

I am a web developer.

As I began building my first Web application, an API mashup that consisted of Flicker photos of an Artistic collaboration with artists searchable on a google map that came together on a Blogger blog and was distributed to Myspace artistic social communities with video sharing through an RSS feed,

I got a little stumped producing a name for this new concept. My ideas were: FliggerSpace, MyRssFlogger, and Flarggeo.

(Screeeeeeeeeeeeching Halt!) That never happened!

I am an artist. I am not an art dealer. I am not an art buyer. I am an artist- just like you.

I think like you, I see like you, I dream like you, and I have the same obstacles to overcome.

I am painfully aware of how hard it is to get good artist representation. I know how hard it is to get an exhibit. I know how hard it is to make yourself known in a competitive art world. I know how expensive art supplies are. I also know what it is like to find yourself miserable in other professions hoping to one day be allowed to focus on your art completely.

The truth is- you don't fit in any other profession. And you never will. Art is not what you do- it is who you are. I am just like you.

Offline I am a two dimensional artist who is most comfortable with drawing and painting mediums such as ink, pastel, graphite, oil, and watercolor. I have spent time working in galleries, hanging exhibits and learning from other artists.

In front of a computer I am a graphic designer and an Illustrator who enjoys web development. I have spent time promoting other artists and learning successful techniques to make a living online.

I have been an artist all my life. I can't remember a time when I didn't draw. As a graphic design and illustration major in college computers and technology were dumped in my lap almost against my will. I realized that there were a lot of similarities and I haven't looked back. My interest in my computer matched my interest in art in a way that nothing before it ever could. Am I an artist who is good with a computer or am I a computer geek who is good with a paint brush? Well that depends on what day it is. There is a fine line between art and design. That is where you will find me. My love of art and my love for my computer work as a unit to create a perfect marriage between my right brain and my left brain. I became a digital artist as a result of that marriage. My computer is as much a foundation for creative expression as my paper and canvas.

My challenges with Digital Art involve incorporating digital mediums that bring the artist into the ever adapting world of technology without taking away from the focus of traditional artistic challenges that still need to be dealt with.

Every night while I sleep I dream of fame and fortune and making a real impact in the art world. But as my dreams continue those delusions of grandeur begin to fade and by the time I open my eyes every morning my realizations are reduced to just one.

I am an artist- just like you, and ultimately I just want to sit around and make stuff all day- every day!

My vision is to even up the artist's playing field. I hope to make it possible for artists to continue to feed their soul and still make a living doing what they love.

Besides my mission to help prove computer generated art to be an acceptable art medium, I also write software and create other websites and resources geared solely towards helping the artist. I currently serve on the Topeka Art Guild board of directors. Special thanks to them for helping me take my head out of my computer from time to time.
